Academy mentioned by White Dove Girls' School
April 15, 2014
How is White Dove Girls’ School Different from Other Schools?
First, it is designed to prepare girls for university studies, professional careers, and business ownership as opposed to more traditional vocations such as hairdressing or basket weaving. Also, the school provides “whole-girl” services that will improve the standard of education, attendance rates, and the quality of life of the students through:
Technology access including computers, electric lights and audio-visual equipment. Our goal for 2013 is to have one computer for every five girls. By 2014, we are planning for one computer for every three students.
Comprehensive health careincluding sexual and reproductive health instruction and anti-malaria measures to prevent illness and school absence. Modern sanitation facilities and supplies will be provided in hope to reduce monthly school absentee rates that can be common with adolescent girls in Rwanda.
Teacher quality: New national education standards have shifted the preferred instructional language from French to English. Curriculum will be delivered in English, with training for teachers who need additional English fluency. International sponsorships will be sought, with mutually beneficial relationship development between Rwandan girls and sponsor families via social media.
Bikes for girls: In late 2013, the girls in our school will each be given a bicycle through an innovative program sponsored by World Bike Relief, Team Rwanda, and the Adrien Niyonshuti's Cycling Academy. The impact of the bike on the lives of the girls and other students throughout Rwanda will be measured.Library and Textbooks:Through Books for Africa, our school will be receiving a shipment of 1,000 textbooks and leisure reading books and we will establish an Eric James Harms Memorial Library.
